Class and Collective Actions

Class and Collective Actions

  • A class action is a type of lawsuit in which a group of similarly situated individuals collectively bring a case to court. The judge may decide to allow the case to be expanded, inviting everyone who is “similarly situated” to join if they choose. Less frequently a judge may decide that everyone “similarly situated” is automatically in the case, but can decline to participate if they do not wish to be part of the lawsuit.
